Project Design & Implementation

Delivering on projects is an important part of the work of the community sector. Whether internally or externally funded, short term projects are one way of addressing identified needs and concerns. While often sought by organisations, project funding can come at inconvenient times, overwhelming the available human and other resources an agency has available.

futures Upfront takes projects and delivers them from start to finish. We work alongside our clients to design the projects, develop implementation plans and put them into action. We are also able to build ongoing evaluation frameworks into the project design, thus delivering information wanted by clients and their funders.

Some recent work:

BAMN, the Bankstown Multicultural Area Network had received funding from the NSW Department of Home Care, Ageing and Disability to make a multilingual video to increase the use of HACC services by ethnic communities. Between receiving the funding and getting ready to implement to project, government announced major reforms in the HACC services sector. The impact of this had on the project was significant and required a major rethink.

futures Upfront together with Film Director Barry Gamba were engaged to work with BAMN, a diverse Project Steering Group and the communities involved to redesign and implement the project.

“Getting the right Help” DVD and Facilitator’s Guide were developed introducing people with disability, older people and their families from six different language groups to the issues of how to find out about services, individualised service supports and the rights of service users.

“Getting the right Help” DVD and Facilitator’s Guide were a finalist in the 2015 Zest Awards.

"Barbel  engaged with enthusiasm and skill with this project. There were some unexpected hurdles and Barbel  worked  creatively and negotiated through those complexities.
And with all that going on, the project was delivered on time within budget."

PictureImage of Strategic Framework
In 2012 the NSW Council for Intellectual Disability (NSW CID) received government funding to deliver the NSW Consumer Development Fund, an initiative initially set up to prepare people with disability and their families for more choice and control. Community expectations were high and government and bureaucracy positions were shifting fast (a few months later NSW government signed up to the NDIS). Against this challenging background, futures Upfront worked with NSW CID to develop the strategic and evaluation framework for My Choice Matters.

We engaged  with stakeholders,  developed business plans and budgets, initial communications plan, branding and website layout, delivered frameworks for all four projects within the fund, and initiated the process of running workshops for people.

“Barbel’s expertise and enthusiasm for ‘thinking outside the square’ has been invaluable in
designing something that works and is not just run of the mill.
Fortunately this is matched with a practical skill set, a breadth of connections and networks,
as well as seemingly endless energy  which enables her to get the work needed done. “
